New Mexico Police Unions Sue Over New DA Policy

HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Unions representing Hobbs and Carlsbad police officers have sued District Attorney Janetta Hicks, asking a Carlsbad district judge to stop Hicks from requiring officers to prosecute misdemeanors.

An attorney for the unions says police officers are not trained attorneys.

Former NYPD chief charged with fraud



A Washington grand jury has indicted Former New York police Commissioner Bernard Kerik over making false statement to land on a top government job.

According to the indictment, Former New York police Commissioner Kerik collected around USD 225,000 in home renovations from contractors eying New York City businesses during his time as the police boss between 1998 and 2002.

New cards explain NYC street stops by police

NEW YORK (AP) — New York City police have begun handing out small cards telling people why they were stopped and searched on city streets.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Thursday that the pilot program began earlier this month in three precincts. It follows a study of so-called "stop-and-frisk" tactics that says officers need to better explain what they're doing.
